Top Food Trends for 2025

This year food trends have been governed by more than just the latest fashions. In the past, leaders in the food industry such as celebrity chefs and food corporations have been largely responsible for dictating the latest foodie treats, fashionable ingredients, and family meals. But in the past year or so, more pressing global concerns, sustainability, health concerns and the latest information about longevity, have created a stronger consumer-driven market to determine what people want to eat.

In 2025 expect a greater emphasis on issues such as gut health, less animal meat and more plant protein consumption. There is still a need for luxury treats and comfort food - but with less of the bad stuff and more of the good.

More pressing global concerns, sustainability, and the latest information about longevity, have created a stronger consumer-driven market to determine what people want to eat.

WHY FOLLOW FOOD TRENDS

For the average food blogger or photographer, knowing the latest market trends can obviously impact their number of followers or clientele.

Social media, food influencers, and pop culture can greatly influence what people are cooking, eating and buying at the supermarkets, and translates to what recipes they will be searching for. And this is where you step in.

Give them what they want - and not necessarily what you've always been doing.

Going niche is also a great way to focus your talents as well as attract more followers and clientele. Niche blogs that have done well in recent years include health food, nutrition, vegan & plant-based diets, gluten-free foods, low-allergen foods, budget-friendly, and family-friendly blogs.

2025

  4. More Sourdough!
  5. Teas. From Earl Grey through to all the medical floral types.

  8. Specialty honeys
  9. Luxury treats
  10. Sustainability.

1. PLANT-BASED DIETS AND HEALTH FOOD

On top of most of the 2025 prediction lists is the plant-based diet, due largely to the popularity of the Blue Zones longevity recommendations. Dan Buettner, the man behind the Blue Zones phenomenon, has over 600 thousand followers on Instagram. Yes, everyone wants to live longer and to live better.

In addition to plant-based diets, more protein from plant sources and less animal meat consumption is high on the list.

In 2025, also expect more emphasis on gut health, probiotic & prebiotic foods, including kimchi, kefir, and fermented foods. And more sourdough!

The rise of gut health trends follows the growing public awareness of the gut’s impact on overall health and mental wellbeing. Social media is now almost demanding more gut-healthy recipes that promise to reduce inflammation, improve digestion, and boost the immune system.

2. SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability has become one of those hip words that sound very important, yet a lot of people still don't know what it means. It's OK if you don't, you're in good company.

Sustainability simply means 'the ability to be maintained at a certain rate or level'. Equate that to the planet and you have the prevention of the depletion of natural resources.

From a foodie's point of view, this means to expect a greater demand for sustainably-sourced ingredients, eco-friendly packaging, and reduced food waste.

Also choosing local and seasonal produce and growing your own food is high on the list - and the good news for bloggers - more home cooking and the need for more recipes!

3. TEAS & SPECIALITY HONEYS

According to many of the predictions, expect to see a rise in the popularity of teas. Yes, tea. From Earl Grey through to all the medical floral types.

Functional teas, those that are made with a particular purpose in mind, are the most popular, as more and more health-conscious people seek beverages that not only have wonderful aromas and taste but also offer significant health benefits.

This is another trend arising from the Blue Zones, as many of these locations advocate drinking lots of healthy herbal teas and consuming locally grown honey instead of sugar.

Many of these teas are designed to help you sleep better, improve your gut health, reduce inflammation and support your overall well-being. Look for trends among ingredients such as Green Tea, Matcha, and numerous herbs and flowers.

Many edible flowers that can be easily grown at home (sustainability!) make delicious and super healthy teas.

In 2025, expect more emphasis on gut health, probiotic & prebiotic foods, including kimchi, kefir, and fermented foods. And more sourdough!

4. SNACKS & TREATS

Not to be completely forgotten, there is still room for some luxury treats and snacks on the 2025 predictions list. Afterall, man cannot live on health food alone!

Popular on prediction lists are:

  • Dumplings, from Asian through to European, such as Pork Bao Buns, Vegan Dumplings and even Pierogi.

  • Crunchy Snacks, including extra-crispy granola, roasted nuts, dehydrated vegie chips & fruits, and plant-based & freeze-dried treats.

  • And don't forget some luxury treats, especially those made with chocolate and caramel. Still the most popular.

Functional teas are the most popular, as more and more health-conscious people seek beverages that not only have wonderful aromas and taste but also offer significant health benefits.

SUMMARY

With greater health concerns, planet sustainability issues, and global economic issues, 2025 should see a greater emphasis on growing your own food, focusing on healthy food choices, home-cooking, and less reliance on animal protein foods.

Seasonal produce is already popular in high-end restaurants and, of course, the homemaker's table. Farmer's markets, and fresh, organic foods should see a rise in the coming year.

Eating for longevity and good health is predicted to rise even more than previous years. Plus deriving medical and health benefits from the foods we eat, rather than medical interventions, are becoming more and more popular.

All this leads to a greater emphasis on healthy, home-grown, home-cooked meals. Making your own sourdough breads and fermented vegetables are high on the list. And this is where, you the food blogger, step in. So go out and create lots of new, inspiring and super healthy dishes for everyone to enjoy!
